1 Oxford University

Oxford, one of the oldest tertiary institutions in the world, seems to have effortlessly kept its reputation as top rank each year. This fact is out of question since everybody seems to be eager to study in this prestigious university. Presently, Oxford has molded myriad of various professionals and achievers like scientists, historians, politicians, and Nobel prize winners and has maintained its high standard of academic excellence.

2. Cambridge University

Cambridge is quite a version of Oxford which has also toppled the charts on its own effort. Though this prestigious institution is known as the best college in the UK, Oxford always overtakes in the overall evaluation. These two top universities, Oxford and Cambridge, have together made their popular name combination as Oxbridge. A number of elite individuals and members of British royal family including King George VI, Prince Henry of Gloucester, Prince William of Edinburgh, and Prince Charles have spent their studies here. Moreover, graduates of Cambridge are the highest paid professionals around.

3. Imperial College

This equally famous college has always maintained its 3rd place among the top prestigious institutions in the UK. Located in the strategic location in Central London, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine also specializes in business, medicine, science, and engineering. It has ranked 5th place in the year 2007 in the QS-THE World University Ranking. Imperial College was a former component of the University of London and it was just two years ago that it has stood apart as an independent institution.

4. St. Andrews

This top university in Scotland has toppled 3rd overall in the UK and the only university from the Scotland which scampered toward the top ten chart. With its 18 academic schools, St. Andrews offer courses in four different major categories like science, medicine, divinity, and C arts.

5. University College London (UCL)

Founded in the 19th century, University College London (UCL) was the first to be instituted among the colleges in the city of London. It is also popularly known as the first institution in Britain to enroll students in spite of their religious or racial differences. As of today, UCL has admitted at least 20,000 students from different countries and backgrounds and handled by more than 80,000 teaching force.

6. Warwick University

Warwick University, popularly known for its excellence in class research facilities, is strategically situated in Coventry, West Midlands, England. For a time it was a renowned radical institution in the 60s and 70s however it has evolved positively and become one of the well supported schools by the government. It has consistently top the list of UK universities alongside with Imperial College, LSE, Cambridge, and Oxford.

7. London School of Economics (LSE)

London School of Economics (LSE) is a component of the University of London that specializes in the study and research for social sciences. LSE offers no less than 100 various courses including Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Science, and many others.

8. Durham University

Durham, declared University of the Year 2005 by the Sunday Times, is an institution whose objectives are dually focused on the college central administration and constituent colleges. 10. Bristol University

Bristol University, known to be one of the biggest employers in the city, has maintained its rank along with the other top universities consistently. The strength of this institution lies on its high quality studies in social sciences, business, and economics. It has garnered the 5th rank in a research assessment exercise conducted in the early 2000. Bristol University covered 15 departments composed of schools and departments categorized into six various faculties.
